UMass Swimming Splits Versus St. John's

amherst, Mass.- The University of Massachusetts women's swimming team defeated St. John's, 172.50-121.50, while the Minutemen dropped to SJU, 131-158, this afternoon at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. pool.
Junior Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) led the way for the Maroon and White, each winning two events. Allery won the one meter (287.02) and three meter (291.00) dives while Dexter earned victories in the 100-yard breast (1:08.02) and 200-yard breast (2:24.68).
Other individual winners for the Minutewomen were junior Lizzy Boyle (Darien, Conn.) in the 50-yard free (25.19) and senior Andrea Kazanjian (Troy, N.Y.) in the 100-yard fly (1:00.90).
The women's team also posted wins in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.77- Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.), Dexter, Kazanjian, Boyle) and 200-yard free relay (1:40, 83- Bolye, Molly Buckley (Taunton, Mass.), Kazanjian, Anne Dettloff (Barrington, Ill.)).
The Minutemen were led by Atlantic 10 Swimmer of the Week, Pete Tawczynski (Holden, Mass.) with wins in the 200-yard breast (2:10.38) and 200-yard IM (1:58.48). Divers Damian Stoy (Poconos Pines, Pa.) and Brandon Doane (Danvers, Mass.) also posted victories for UMass in the one meter (251.70) and three meter (273.08) dives, respectively.
Sean Collins (North Reading, Mass.), Matt Woodward (Waterboro, Maine), Matt Woodfield (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Conner Townsend (Memphis, Tenn.) combined to win the 200-yard free relay in a time of 1:29.60.
The Minutewomen improve to 3-2 on the season while the Minutemen drop to 3-1. UMass will return to competition, Nov. 30-Dec. 1, as they head to Syracuse for a two day dual meet.
