Swim Teams Split Against GW

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming and diving teams recorded mixed results on Saturday at George Washington, as the men's team came away with a 161-96 victory and the Minutewomen fell 145.5-132.5.
The Minutemen tallied eight first place finishes to defeat the Colonials. Leading the way for the men's team was senior Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.) and junior Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.). Zaucha recorded two first place finishes, winning both the 200-yard IM (1:57.14) and the 200-yard back (1:56.83), and also captured second place in the 100-yard backstroke at (56.65).
Alomar won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, tallying scores of 245.25 and 262.5, respectively.
Also performing well for the Minutemen were seniors Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.), Justin Houck (Wyomissing, Pa.) and Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.), along with sophomore Dylan Smith (Timmonium, Md.). Bellamy placed first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:47.34, while fellow senior Houck took first place in the 100-yard backstroke at 53.39. Keane won the 500-yard freestyle at 4:43.73 and Smith finished first in the 200-yard butterfly at 1:56.43.
The Minutewomen were led by senior Kate Allery (South Hadley, Mass.), juniors Diana Alberti (Wantagh, N.Y.), Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass.) and Lauren Rowell (Hamburg, N.Y.), and freshman Aimee Bourassa (Ottawa, Ontario).
Allery won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at 243.08 and 248.7, respectively. Also placing first was Bourassa and Dexter. Bourassa won the 200-yard freestyle at 1:57.77 and Dexter finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:23.86. Alberti finished second in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.07) and 200-yard butterfly (2:12.09), and Rowell placed second in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.23) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.15).
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Bronx, N.Y. on Feb. 1 to take on Fordham.
