Women's Swim Loses A Nail Biter To Bryant, 123.5-119.5
Jan. 21, 2012 AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's swimming team narrowly fell to Bryant, Friday, by a score of 123.5-119.5. The Minutewomen needed to sweep the final event of the meet, the 200-yard freestyle relay, in order to claim victory over the Bulldogs. However, Bryant was able to sneak into second-place with UMass finishing in first and third, solidifying the win for Bryant. The Minutemen defeated the Bulldogs, 153-88. The Minutewomen finished with four individual first-place finishes, two of which coming from freshman Zoe Judd. Judd claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.26. She also took first in the 100-yard butterfly touching the wall 59.49, ahead of teammates Kaitlyn McKenna in second (1:01.06) and Tarryn Teresak in third (1:01.38). Sarah Kanellas took the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.45. Chelsea Downing won the 100-yard IM finishing with a time of 1:01.16. She also took second in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.23) and the 50-yard breaststroke (30.69). The 200-yard freestyle relay team to finish first was Judd, Kelsey Hinrichs, Anna Cavanaugh and Amina Meho who finished with a time of 1:38.34. The third place team was made up of Teresak, Molly Smyth, Molly Papish and Katie Arnott who finished with a time of 1:43.30. The Minutewomen will be back in action this coming weekend as they head to White River Junction, Vermont for the Upper Valley Invitational, starting on Friday.
