Massachusetts Sweeps Dual At Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Massachusetts men's and women's swimming teams won 21 of 28 events in sweeping Bryant on Saturday.

The women claimed 11 of 14 events for a 162-100 victory and the UMass men won 10 races en route to a 178-84 score.

Sophomore Rebecca Quirie opened the meet with a leadoff leg of the winning 200 medley relay team and then won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events for a perfect day.

Freshman Meriza Werenski was also perfect on the day with a pair of victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke races, to go along with her portion of the medley relay.

Sophomore Jocelyn Yuen performed well in the butterfly with gold medal swims in both individual events and the medley relay.

Junior Molly Smyth was tyne high-point scorer in the distance events, touching first in the 500 and 1000 freestyles, before closing the meet with the third leg of the winning 200 free relay quartet. She also took third in the 200 free.

Senior Anna Cavanaugh added multiple titles with her wins in the 200 free and 200 free relay, in addition to her silver in the 100 free.

Both teams will return to an invitational format this weekend when they participate in the Dartmouth Invitational. The event will be held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Jct., Vt. Friday's action begins at 5:00 p.m. and Saturday's will start at 10:00 a.m.
