Minutewomen In First At URI Invitational With One Day Remaining

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's swimming and diving team concluded day one of the Rhode Island Invitational in first place, amassing 196.50 total points, 64 ahead of second place URI. La Salle sits in third place with 129 points, while George Washington sits in fourth just behind the Explorers with 128. Day two will begin Saturday January 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The Minutewomen powered through day one winning four of their six events. Perhaps the most impressive event of the night for UMass came on the one-meter board, where the Minutewomen took the top six spots. Michaela Butler, once again, led the pack with a 268.20. Molly Elkins took second and Mary Atkinson took third, with scores of 253.35 and 225.75, respectively. Mikhaila Eckhardt took fourth, Rachel Dushman fifth and Rhiannon Froman sixth, rounding out the rest.

In the pool Jocelyn Yuen paced the women with an individual victory in the 200-yard IM, to go along with a win as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the IM Yuen finished with a time of 2:09.79, while finishing with a time of 1:38.71 in the relay with Zoe Judd, Amina Meho and Cassie Sosnovich.



Judd and Meho took second and fourth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle recording times of 24.94 and 25.17.

In the 500-yard freestyle Molly Smyth led the pack with a time of 5:01.73, Anna Cavanaugh followed her up in third with a time of 5:07.27.
