On Saturday, the UMass softball team held its annual banquet at the Mullins Center's Massachusetts Room. Head coach Elaine Sortino and her staff used the event as a way to celebrate what was an incredibly successful 2009 campaign with student-athletes, families, alumni, and supporters. UMass Teams To Participate In Friends of Jaclyn Race October 4

Several UMass teams will be participating in the Second Annual Friends of Jaclyn Walk/Race on October 4 at Amherst College. UMass Men's and Women's Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Women's Basketball will all be taking part in the event. The UMass Softball has recently gotten involved in the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation. Minutewomen Continue Fall Ball Season This Weekend

The UMass Softball team will continue their fall ball season this weekend when it hosts three games at the UMass Softball Complex. On Friday, the Minutewomen will square off against Holy Cross at 4 PM. After a trip to the University of Connecticut on Saturday, UMass will return home to play a double header against Central Connecticut. First pitch for game one is set for 12 PM. For the fifth consecutive year, the UMass softball team will be honored by the BoSox Club, the official booster club of the Boston Red Sox, as the top Division I softball team in New England. The Minutewomen will be guests at the club's annual Amateur Baseball Awards Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Newton Marriott. MORE

Softball Announces Fall Schedule

The UMass softball team has released its fall schedule. The Atlantic 10 champions and NCAA Tournament team from the spring will play an eight-game fall schedule. The fall season will be capped off with the Alumni Weekend, which will feature Danielle Henderson's induction into the UMass Hall of Fame, the Alumni Game, Banquet, and golf tournament. MORE

Sortino Named ECAC Coach Of The Year

The Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) announced this week that UMass softball head coach Elaine Sortino has been named the recipient of the Division I Softball Combat Sports/ECAC Coach of the Year award. Sortino will be honored at the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens at the The Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis, Mass. on October 6. MORE
