AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts softball standouts Cyndil Matthew and Tiffany Meeks were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region teams as announced by the organization Thursday.

Meeks was named to the first team at first base and Matthew garnered attention as a second-team outfielder.

Meeks hit .352 and led the Minutewomen with 11 doubles, nine home runs and 40 RBI during her junior campaign in 2013. In A-10 play she was third in the league with a .425 avg, while hitting seven long balls to rank sixth. In a doubleheader at Rhode Island, the Salinas, Calif. native tied an NCAA record with a home run in four-consecutive at-bats. She was a second-team All-A-10 honoree this season.

Matthew earns her second regional award after her first-team honor a year ago preceded an All-America nod. She ranks fourth in the A-10 with a .380 avg. and first in steals with 31 (ninth in the nation). The senior from Westfield, N.J. was a three-time all-conference award recipient and a two-time first team winner.

She finished her career fourth in school history with a .362 batting avg., ninth with 124 runs scored, tied for fourth with a .443 on-base pct. and third with 92 stolen bases.

263 players from 137 different teams across the nation were selected. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first and second teams selected for each region.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

The 2013 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 5 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, May 29, via
