Normandin Named A-10 Player Of The Week
April 27, 2009
AMHERS, Mass. - Junior centerfielder Carly Normandin was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday after an outstanding week of play on the road. Normandin notched a .583 batting average over the past three games, hitting three doubles and a homerun to improve her season average to .432. The Minutewomen went 2-1 over those three games, with a victory over UConn in the middle of the week and they later split a weekend doubleheader at Charlotte.
Normandin was the hero at UConn with UMass down by a run in the seventh inning with two outs, the bases loaded, and down to her last strike, she crushed a grand slam over the left field fence to lead UMass to the 6-4 victory. During the weekend doubleheader with Charlotte, Normandin led the UMass offense in game one helping the Minutewomen to a 3-0 victory over the 49ers. The Gardner, Mass. native hit two doubles and scored twice in the game. In game two, the junior went 3-for-4 hitting another double and scoring twice again.
Normandin now has 54 hits on the season including 13 doubles and six home runs. She has also batted in 22 runs and will look to build her numbers even higher as the Minutewomen will head to Rhode Island on Tuesday, April 28, for a mid-week doubleheader.
