Tiffany Meeks Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts sophomore Tiffany Meeks was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
The first baseman from Salinas, Calif. hit .545 in four games last week while delivering the eventual game-winning RBI at Boston College and against Saint Joseph's. She also posted an on-base pct. of .615 and a slugging pct. of .909.
Meeks drove in four runs against SJU on Friday and hit her second-career grand slam to put Sunday's win over Temple into a mercy-rule situation. She reached base in all four games and raised her batting avg. by 62 points.
UMass (25-11, 11-0 A-10), which has won nine-consecutive games, returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Rhode Island (18-27-1, 2-9-1). The doubleheader at the UMass Softball Complex is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Heidi Penna of George Washington was named the league's Pitcher of the Week and Lauren Renson of SJU was named the Rookie of the Week.
