NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Massachusetts pitcher Sara Plourde and shortstop Quianna Diaz-Patterson were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Pitcher and Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Plourde, the senior from Bristol, Conn., went 3-0 last week while allowing only two earned runs and two base hits over 19.0 innings pitched. She also tossed her 12th career no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac. During her no-hit performance against Quinnipiac, Plourde became the Massachusetts and Atlantic 10 Conference career strikeout leader as she surpassed former record holder Danielle Henderson (1,343 from 1996-99 at UMass).

Plourde is 15-8 on the season with a 2.50 earned run average and 259 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .124 avg. She has been strong at the plate as well, hitting .500 since being put into the offensive lineup seven games ago. She has a six-game hitting streak and has belted three home runs in the last five games.

This is Plourde's fourth Pitcher of the Week honor this season and 13th all-time of her career, to go along with a pair of Rookie of the Week nods in 2009.

Diaz-Patterson, the freshman from Amherst, Mass., hit .364 (4-11) last week with two extra-base hits, including a pair of game-winning RBI. The Amherst Regional HS product also scored four runs and collected a home run and three RBI. She either leads the team or is tied for the lead in slugging pct. (.568), doubles (8), triples (1) and home runs (4), while ranking second in batting avg. (.318) and stolen bases (3).

This is Diaz-Patterson's first career A-10 award and the first weekly rookie honor for a Minutewoman since Lindsay Webster secured the plaudit in early April of last season.
