Carbone Named A10 Rookie of the Week; UMass Heads To UConn On Tuesday

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts freshman Taylor Carbone was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Softball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The Hudson, N.H. native hit a team-best .636, with a .909 slugging pct. and a .636 on-base pct. The starting second baseman hit .571 in the St. Bonaventure series alone with three doubles.
She is the first Minutewoman to earn the rookie award this season and the first since Quianna Diaz-Patterson picked up her second honor on April 30, 2012.
She ranks second on the team with a .344 avg. and leads the Minutewomen with six doubles. In four A10 games, she has posted a .429 avg. with three doubles and a homer.
Fordham's Jamie Labovick and Michele Daubman were named the Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
UMass travels to its neighbors in Storrs for a Tuesday afternoon contest. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and the game will feature an audio broadcast on UMassAtheltics.com.
UMass (6-16) is riding a four-game winning streak after a solid start to its home season with three victories last week at Sortino Field.
Connecticut (13-13) enters the contest having dropped three of its last four games.
The teams are meeting for the 88th time on Tuesday with the Huskies holding a 45-41-1 series edge. UConn won the last meeting, 5-3, in Storrs on April 2, 2012. Prior to that, UMass had won the last eight games, including six-consecutive in Storrs. The series is the second-most played in program history behind the 99 contests with Rhode Island.
The Minutewomen have produced three no-hitters against the Huskies with the most recent coming in 2008 on the arm of current assistant coach Brandice Balschmiter.
