UMass Tackles Tough Competition In Florida For Final A-10 Tune-Up

The Massachusetts softball team will travel to Tampa and Clearwater, Fla. for the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament.
The Minutewomen open play on Friday against the 12th-ranked Bears at 11:45 a.m. on the USF campus. The team will follow that up with a game against the host Bulls at 4:30.
UMass is 2-7 on the season and looking to gain some momentum before Atlantic 10 play opens next weekend at Saint Louis.
Caroline Raymond is 2-5 in the circle for UMass, collecting 16 strikeouts in 43 innings.
Offensively, the team is hitting .212 with three home runs, seven doubles and three triples. Junior SS Quianna Diaz-Patterson leads the team in batting (.375) and walks (6).
Baylor is 17-4 and hitting .331 as a team thus far in 2014 while the Lady Bears lead the Big 12 with a 1.54 team ERA defensively.
USF is 22-7 and ranks first in the American Athletic Conference in six offensive categories, including hits (225), runs (147), RBI (127) and home runs (24). They are also hitting .315 with a slugging percentage of .466.
