AUSTIN, Texas -- Cat Osterman (25-6) threw her second no-hitter in three games and led fourth-ranked Texas (43-11) to a 1-0 win over Massachusetts (37-15-1) in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament. Osterman faced just one batter over the minimum. UMass senior pitcher Barb LaFogg (Williamsburg, Mass.) was the tough luck loser. She gave up just one run on three hits and is now 20-10 on the season. She walked one and struck out four.

The Longhorns scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. LaFogg retired the first two batters of the inning on just two pitches, but Desiree Williams hit a double off the left-field wall. Then on an 0-2 pitch, Megan Willis hit a single into right-center field. Williams came around from second base to score the only run of the game.

Freshman Stacy Cullington (Encinitas, Calif.) worked a one-out walk in the top of the fifth to represent UMass' first base runner. She was then pinch run for by freshman Maggie Feix (North Kingstown, R.I.). Feix was unable to advance any further as Osterman got freshman Lauren Proctor (Redmond, Wash.) and sophomore Amanda Acampora (Orange, Conn.) to strike out. That was the only base runner of the game for the Minutewomen.

In addition to it being her second no-hitter in the last three starts, it marked the fifth one of the season for Osterman.

Texas advances to face Mississippi State in the winner's bracket game at 1:00 PM Eastern on Saturday. UMass will then play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 3:30 PM. Mississippi State defeated Corpus Christi 1-0 earlier this evening. If UMass wins, it would then move on to play the loser of the first game at 6:00 PM Eastern. UMass' first game tomorrow will be broadcast on WPNI (1430 AM) and online at www.umassathletics.com. If the Minutewomen win, then the second game would be back on WRNX (100.9 FM). Live stats will also be available for both games on www.umassathletics.com.
