UMass Rebounds For 9-4 Win Over La Salle
April 18, 2014
UMass (11-16, 5-3 Atlantic 10) outhit La Salle (15-15, 7-3) 12-4 and split the two-game series over the past two days.
After struggling to just four base runners in a 3-0 loss on Thursday, UMass came to the field with a renewed mindset and was in total control on Friday, scoring the first four runs before busting it wide open with a five-run fifth inning.
UMass got on the board in the top of the first when Bridget Lemire sliced a ball into the right field corner that scored Diaz-Patterson from second.
They struck again an inning later when Cozza hit a bloop single over shortstop that drove in a pair. She scored a batter later on Carbone's sacrifice fly to right center to make it 4-0.
La Salle broke through in the fourth when it loaded the bases on three walks. Emily Moran's lined shot to third caromed off Anna Kelley's glove and allowed two runners to score. Raymond relieved Klee at that point and retired the side on a flyout.
The Minutewomen bounced right back in the next half inning, scoring five runs on four hits to regain the momentum and a 9-2 margin. Webster followed RBIs from Diaz-Patterson and Cozza with her long ball as she posted her fourth homer of the year.
UMass will travel to Fordham on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at Noon. Both games will be broadcast online at UMassAthletics.com and available on the Atlantic 10 Conference mobile app.
