New Britain, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts softball team slipped by Central Connecticut, 3-0 and 1-0, this afternoon on the arms of junior Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and senior Jen Hadley (Bristol, Conn.). The Minutewomen have now won their last 21 games.

Holtz (15-5) threw the first game and held the Blue Devils to one hit over seven innings, while striking out nine.

UMass took a scoreless game into the seventh inning and scored three runs on one hit and one error. Junior Anna Perey (Chino Valley, Ariz.) started the UMass rally with a leadoff walk and stole second base. Sophomore Aisha Franke (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Ashley Bakken (Phoenix, Ariz.) then loaded the bases with back-to-back bunts. Junior Emily Robustelli (Stamford, Conn.) delivered the game-winner with a sacrifice fly to center to score Perey. Franke also scored on the play when an errant throw to third base ended up in Central Connecticut's dug out. Senior Teri Rooney (Visalia, Calif.) gave the Minutewomen another insurance run with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Bakken.

In game two, sophomore pinch hitter Nicole Wilson (Gaithersburg, Md.) had the game-winning drive to left field to score junior Brandi Cross (Diamond Bar, Calif.) who had reached base on a walk and moved into scoring position on a fielder's choice.

Hadley (16-5) picked up the win, allowing two hits, while striking out eight.

The wins improve UMass' record to 36-10 overall, while Central Connecticut slips to 10-24. The Minutewomen return to action Saturday, April 20 with a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure in Amherst at noon.
