Box Score

Amherst, Mass. - Senior Scooter Wheeler's (Kingsburg, Calif.) RBI single and two-run home run lifted the Minutewomen to a 3-0 victory over La Salle University this afternoon to sweep the three-game weekend series.

The Minutewomen utilized a two-out single by Wheeler in the third inning to score junior Emily Robustelli (Stamford, Conn.) and give UMass the one run edge.

UMass added to its lead in the fifth frame as Wheeler belted a home run over the right field fence, scoring senior Teri Rooney (Visalia, Calif.). It marked the fourth homer for Wheeler this season and the 21st of her career.

UMass tallied 11 hits on the day, including two from Robustelli, Rooney, Wheeler and junior Anna Perey (Chino Valley, Ariz.), but stranded 11 runners on base.

Junior ace Kaila Holtz (North Vancouver, British Columbia) recorded the UMass win, her second victory of the weekend, as she allowed just three hits, while striking out seven Explorers. The shutout was Holtz' third in a row and her fourth of the season.

The Minutewomen return to action Thursday, April 4, as they host Maine for a 2:00 p.m., doubleheader.
