Box Score

MIAMI, Fla. - The University of Massachusetts softball team (11-8) fell to tournament host Florida International University, 2-1, this evening at the Blue and Gold Classic.

Errors once again plagued the UMass defense as two muffs in the first inning, combined with a Golden Panther hit gave FIU the, 2-0, lead and eventual victory.

UMass' sole run came in the second frame as sophomore Jamie Cahalan (Mesa, Ariz.) tripled to right center and scored on an errant throw to third base.

Jennifer Hadley (Bristol, Conn.) took the tough loss for the Minutewomen as she scattered five hits and no walks over 7.0 innings, while striking out three.

UMass returns to tournament action Saturday morning for a double-header. The Minutewomen will face UMKC at 10:00 a.m., and Atlantic 10 foe Fordham at noon.
