Box Score

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - A three-run first inning on two hits, followed by single runs in the fifth and sixth gave No. 19 Oklahoma State (11-3) a 5-0 victory over UMass (2-6) at the Cathedral City Classic on Saturday afternoon. All three first-inning runs were unearned as the Cowgirls benefited from two errors. Kyllie Magill led UMass with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. The Minutewomen conclude play on Sunday with a noon ET game against No. 11 Texas and a 2 p.m. ET contest against Fresno State.

In the top of the first, after a leadoff walk and an out, Alysia Hamilton singled to left and it was misplayed resulting in the game's first run. With two outs, UMass' second error of the inning, on Tamara Brown's groundball to second, scored Hamilton, and after a walk, Sammy Joe Diffendaffer singled to plate the third unearned run.

Back-to-back Cowgirl singles to start the fifth inning set up Chelsea Garcia's sacrifice fly that made it 4-0, and in the sixth, a two-out double by Julie Ward drove in the fifth run for Oklahoma State.

Sara Plourde (2-4) pitched all seven innings for UMass, struck out eight and allowed two earned runs on eight hits and five walks.

Kat Espinosa (6-0) went the distance for the Cowgirls, allowing five hits, one walk, and struck out four.

UMass' biggest threat came in the fifth inning when Audrey Boutin and Teea Rogers had back-to-back one-out singles, but Espinosa got a strikeout and fly out to get out of the jam.
