Feb. 19, 2011
BOCA RATON, Fla. - Dorian Shaw and Caitlin Blanchard each hit solo home runs while Jordan Taylor pitched a one-hitter to lead No. 11 Michigan (9-0) to a 3-0 victory over UMass (1-2) on day two of the FAU Kickoff Classic on Saturday afternoon. Sara Plourde allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out 12 while Jordan Storro collected the lone hit for the Minutewomen, who will return to action at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the host FAU Owls.
Blanchard led off the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run to right-center that made it 2-0, and after a strikeout, Bree Evans reached second base on an error on a liner to left field. She later scored on Nicole Sappingfield's single to make it 3-0.
Shaw gave the Wolverines the early 1-0 lead with a solo home run to center field with two outs in the top of the first innings, but the game then turned into a pitching duel as Taylor and Plourde put zeroes up on the scoreboard until the sixth inning.
Plourde (1-1) had terrific control throughout the game, throwing 74 of her 100 pitches for strikes, and did not allow a walk. The junior retired 13 in row between the solo home runs in the first and sixth innings.
Taylor (4-0) struck out 10 Minutewomen while allowing one hit and one walk.
Storro lined a pitch to center field to lead off the fourth inning and later stole second, but Taylor retired three straight to get out of the jam.
