UMass' Mattsson Collects All-Region Honor
Dec. 5, 2012
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer sophomore forward Moa Mattsson has been selected to the 2012 NSCAA Women's Division 1 All-Mid-Atlantic Region team, it was announced this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The honor is Mattsson's second in as many years with the Minutewomen, as she was named to the all-region third team as a freshman, as well.
Mattsson adds to her list of 2012 accolades as she was previously selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team and earned Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition this fall. The Uppsala, Sweden, native led UMass in scoring in 2012 with 29 points on 12 goals and five assists. The converted midfielder, in her first season up front, started all 20 games for the Minutewomen and was 17th in the nation in game-winning goals with five, tied for second in the A-10.
Among the Atlantic 10 rankings, Mattsson finished her sophomore campaign in the top-three in points (third), points per-game (third), goals (tied-second) and goals per-game (tied-third).
Mattsson's 29 points on this season marked the most by a Minutewoman since Emma Kurowski, UMass' all-time points leader, recorded 32 as a senior in 1999 on her way to Atlantic 10 Player of the Year recognition.
