AMHERST, Mass. - Women's soccer seniors Meghan Collins and Julie Morrissey will both be representing UMass at the 2011 New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, it was announced recently. The match is tentatively schedule for an 11 a.m. kickoff on Sunday, Dec. 4, in North Andover, Mass., at Merrimack College.
Collins, who served as a co-captain for the Minutewomen this fall, was named an All-Atlantic 10 first team defender and was also selected to the A-10 All-Tournament team after helping UMass advance to the championship match the first time since 1997. One of five players to start all 21 games in 2011, Collins totaled five points on two goals and one assist, including one game-winner. She helped UMass post 11 shutouts on the year, second-most in the A-10 and most by a Minutewomen squad since 1997.
Morrissey was tabbed an All-Atlantic 10 second team forward this fall and earned a spot on the A-10 All-Tournament team. In her first season at UMass after transferring from Cincinnati, Morrissey led the Minutewomen in scoring with 19 points on nine goals and one assist, surpassing her previous career bests from her time with the Bearcats. One of five players to start all 21 matches, Morrissey totaled six game-winning goals, good for second in the A-10 and fourth all-time in program history for a single season.
The Minutewomen finished the year at 14-5-2, the program's most successful season since 1997.
