AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team has been recognized for its work in the classroom as the Minutewomen were one of 504 women's programs to earn a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), it was announced recently.

The Minutewomen posted a combined grade point average of 3.00 during the 2011-12 academic year. For head coach Ed Matz, it marks the eighth time in the last nine years that a team under his direction has received an NSCAA Team Academic Award, as his Northeastern squads garnered the accolade every season from 2004 to 2009.

Individually this fall, sophomore forward Moa Mattsson was recognized for her academic success as she represented UMass on the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District I first team and the Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference squad.
