Kaelyn Caldwell Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team
Nov. 2, 2007
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer senior defender Kaelyn Caldwell has been named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District First Team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSida) on Thursday. She is now qualified for Academic All-America, which will be announced in the upcoming weeks. It marks the second consecutive season that Caldwell has been an honoree, but the first time earning first-team.
Caldwell, fielding a tremendous GPA as a psychology major, has displayed success in the classroom as well as on the playing field. As a sophomore in 2005, she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team. Last season, she won that award again, while also being honored as a CoSida All-District Academic Honoree.
Caldwell has started every game the past two seasons, anchoring the UMass defense. This season, she scored her first-career goal on Oct. 7 at Xavier, while picking up an assist on a nifty pass the following game vs. Rhode Island (Oct. 11). She is leading a defense that has allowed only 17 goals in 15 games.
The Minutewomen return to Rudd Field this weekend with a pair of games to close out the season. They host Richmond at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday, while playing George Washington at 11:00 a.m. on Senior Day Sunday. Admission is free to all, or fans can watch live through All-Access or follow with live stats through Gametracker.
