AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer freshman defender Brittany Moore and senior midfielder Therese Smith were both honored with weekly awards on Monday following the Minutewomen's 2-0 conference weekend. Moore was tabbed co-Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, while Smith was recognized as co-UMass Athlete of the Week along with diver Jason Cook.

Moore helped the UMass defense post a pair of shutouts this weekend, 5-0 over Temple and 1-0 over Saint Joseph's, bringing the team total to six shutouts on the year, the most by the Minutewomen since 2006. The freshman anchored a backline that held the Hawks to just two shots on goal in Sunday's contest, while also dishing an assist on the second goal of Friday's match against the Owls. Moore is one of four players to start all 16 games thus far and has two assists on the season.

Smith scored in both UMass victories this weekend, helping to start the rout of Temple by notching the second goal of the game 18:18 into the match. The midfielder followed up by tallying the overtime winner against Saint Joseph's on Senior Day, the lone goal of the contest which gave the Minutewomen their seventh victory of the season, the most for the program since 2007. Smith is currently second on the squad in scoring with 17 points on seven goals and three assists and has started 51 of the past 52 matches.

UMass heads into an important weekend to close out the regular season as the squad will play at Fordham and La Salle, Friday and Sunday, Oct 29 and 31, looking to earn a berth into the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
