AMHERST, Mass. - Women's soccer freshman forward Tori Sousa has earned a pair of weekly awards as she has been tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as well as co-UMass Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. She shares the UMass honor with football's Darren Thellen and the pair will be recognized at the Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Massachusetts Room at Mullins Center at 12:15 p.m.

Sousa scored the first two goals of her career over the weekend, a 1-1-0 weekend for the Minutewomen in Atlantic 10 play, totaling four points. On Friday afternoon, Sousa scored the eventual game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Fordham. Friday's win over the Rams gave the squad an eight-game unbeaten streak, it's longest since 1997 and brought the Minutewomen their ninth win of the season, the most for the team in a season since 2007

On Sunday, Sousa followed up by becoming just the second player to score on La Salle this season, giving UMass a 1-0 lead over the top-ranked defense in the country, though the Minutewomen eventually fell to the Explorers in overtime, 3-2.

UMass will return to action on Rudd this Friday against Duquesne at 4 p.m.
