As the UMass women's soccer season progresses, UMassathletics.com will sit down with different members of the team to find out a little bit about them. Freshman forward Therese Smith shares her thoughts this week.

UMass: What made you want to play soccer?
All my friends in the first grade were playing it so I decided to.

UM: What's it like to be playing Division I soccer so close to home?
It's pretty cool, just because I've been to so many UMass games in all different sports because of the school's location. So it's certainly kind of surreal to play here.

UM: Could you describe the feeling after scoring your first-career goal in the home-opener?
I just felt lucky. I was in the right place at the right time.

UM: How have the upperclassmen been in easing your transition not only to college soccer, but college in general? Could you explain?
The upperclassmen have been really welcoming. They're all hilarious and so much fun to be around. Usually if we (the freshmen) have questions about school, we ask them as well. They're all big helps.

UM: Do you have any career goals?
To win the A-10 would probably be at the top of the list of goals.

UM: What are your goals for freshman year, both individually and for the team?
I suppose my goals for this year would be individually, to make an impact every minute I'm on the field. For the team, making A-10's and doing really well.

UM: What was the most difficult transition to college (soccer-related or not)?
The walk to classes. I'm used to one building (high school). I get good use out of my iPod now.

UM: How do you spend your spare time?
On facebook, hands down.

UM: Do you have any pregame rituals? If so, what?
Yes. Mel Toulose, Kelsey Anderson, Cristina Adams and I do chest bumps during our four-line drill. I also have a handshake with Katie Ruggles. I'm sure there will be more of those to come with other people.

UM: At the end of the year, you hope to say _________.
That I left everything on the field.
