Collins Earns Co-UMass Athlete Of The Week Honors
Oct. 11, 2011
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer senior co-captain Meghan Collins has been named co-UMass Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. Collins, the fourth member of the Minutewomen to earn the award this fall, shares the accolade with football's Jesse Julmiste. The duo will be honored at the Sports Luncheon this Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 12:15 p.m. in the Student Union Cape Cod Room.
Collins factored in both goals of UMass' 2-1 victory on the road at Charlotte on Friday, the squad's first over the 49ers since the teams' first ever meeting back in 2005. She assisted on the first goal of the contest and later broke the 1-1 tie with the game-winner on a header in the 78th minute.
Collins, who has started 41 consecutive games and has appeared in 47 straight, played all 110 minutes of the Minutewomen's 1-1 draw at Saint Louis. UMass came from behind for the tie to extend its unbeaten streak to seven straight, its best since 2007. The team is now 8-2-2 on the year, having already matched its win total from last season and ranks in the top-30 nationally for win-loss percentage.
