AMHERST, Mass. - Football wide receiver Victor Cruz and women's soccer forward Vanessa Patry have been named UMass/Dinn. Bros. Co-Athletes Of The Week after each had sensational performances last week. Cruz had a record-setting day in the No. 3 Minutemen's 52-38 loss to No. 7 James Madison on Saturday while Patry scored a goal and added two assists in two UMass victories, including a game-winning overtime tally vs. Holy Cross.

Cruz finished the afternoon with a school-record tying 13 receptions good for a record-breaking 262 yards and two scores (the first touchdowns of his career). The 262 yards shattered the previous record of 210 held by Adrian Zullo in 1999. The yard total was also good for fourth-most in conference history (Yankee/A-10/CAA) with 11 catches and 248 yards coming in the second half. One of his receptions was a 69-yard catch which set up the Minutemen for a fourth quarter score.

With points in both games last week, Patry extended her point streak to a career-high three games. The senior captain assisted on the first (and game-winning) goal in UMass' 2-0 win over Bryant on Wednesday before having a hand in both goals in the Minutewomen's thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Holy Cross on Sunday. Patry scored the game-winner in the second overtime, heading a corner kick into the back of the net. In total, she has had a hand in five of UMass' seven goals on the season.

The pair will be honored on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon in room 1009 of the Campus Center. The guest speakers will be football head coach Don Brown and field hockey head coach Justine Sowry. The Luncheon runs from Noon to 1 p.m. and features a full salad-to-dessert meal for just $8.00. For reservations call 413-545-4290.
