UMass Women's Soccer Adds Seven For 2014

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's soccer has added seven newcomers for the 2014 season, head coach Ed Matz announced on Friday. The recruiting class features four forwards, three midfielders and a goalkeeper and is comprised of three players from Massachusetts and one each from Maryland, Nevada, Virginia and Denmark.
"I feel that this class will add a new dimension to our program," said Matz. "The group as a whole consists of speedy offensive-minded players who will be fun to watch. I am excited to add these players to our returning core, along with the three more individuals who sat out last season. We are going to have a tremendous amount of competition in our August training camp and throughout the 2014 campaign."
Cassidy Babin - GK - Archbishop Spalding/Ellicott City, Md.
Coach Matz on Babin: "Cassidy will come into our program and challenge for the starting job immediately. She possesses great communication skills in net."
Served as team captain for Archbishop Spalding in 2013 ... Was a MACS All-State First Team selection in 2012 and 2013 ... Three-time IAAM "A" All-Conference Team (2011-13) and First Team All County, Anne Arundel County (2011-13) honoree ... Earned an All-Metro First Team nod from the Baltimore Sun (2012-13) and was on the second team in 2011 ... Recognized as a member of the Washington Post's All-Metro First Team in 2012 and All-Metro Second Team in 2013 ... Member of Maryland ODP Program from 2009-12 ... Part of ODP U16 Region I Pool Team and ODP Interregional National Developmental Camp Pool "A" Team in 2012 ... ODP U15 Region I Pool Team member in 2011 ... Played club soccer for Premier SC ... Helped team to Maryland State Cup Championship in 2010 and 2011 and a Region 1 title in 2010 ... National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member (2012-14) ... Danielle Farano - M - Las Vegas, Nev./Centennial
Coach Matz on Farano: "Danielle is an attacking midfielder that a program can be built around. She wants the ball at her feet and makes outstanding decisions. She has the ability to score goals and, but can also set up her teammates with her passing abilities."
Four-year varsity starter for Centennial High School ... Earned All-Southern Nevada, All-Sunset Region and Sunset League honors for 2013-2014 ... Received an All-Northwest League nod in 2011-12, as well ... Voted Team MVP junior and senior year ... Has played club soccer for Las Vegas Premier Soccer Club (Las Vegas Premier Sports Academy) for 10 years ... Participated in Elite Clubs National League and was team Captain for ECNL ... Played ODP for Region IV in 2009 and 2010 ... Reached championship game in Phoenix, Arizona ... Also selected to Region IV player pool and attended Camp in California ... Part of Las Vegas Premier '96 squad that won a state championship in 2010 ... Was invited to US Youth Soccer National Development Camp in Feb. 2011 ... Invited to ID2 camp held in Las Vegas in 2011, as well ... Participated in Elite Clubs National League Player Development Program (2012-14) ... Ashley Horrigan- F - East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow
Coach Matz on Horrigan: "Ashley is a local Western Mass. player out of a very good club program. She is very quick and will add speed and athleticism from the left side of the field. She has the ability to get in behind defenders to serve balls in the box and score goals."
Three year starter at East Longmeadown High School under coach Jenn Mauer Serafino ... Helped the squad win a Western Mass. title and reach the state finals in 2011 ... Earned All- Western Mass. honors and served as team captain as a senior in 2013 ... Was named team's Offensive MVP ... Played club soccer for Western United, FC Stars and ECNL 18 ... Played ODP from 2008-10 ... Named MVP of State Cup finalist squad in 2009 ... Daughter of John and Anna Horrigan ... Has two siblings, Alec and Andrew ... Plans to major in Communications.
Gabriela Kenyon - F - Plymouth, Mass./Notre Dame Academy-Hingham
Coach Matz on Kenyon: "Gabby is a strong, fast forward who is a natural goal scorer. She can play on the flank or in the middle and can be very dangerous getting in behind defenders."
Scored 36 goals and dished 18 assists as a senior at Notre Dame Academy, helping squad to a Division 2 state championship ... Was a finalist for ESPN Boston's "Miss Soccer" award ... All-New England Team selection ... Named Eastern Mass. First Team All-Star ... Earned Boston Globe All-Scholastic, Boston Herald All-Scholastic and Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic honors ... Five-time Boston Globe Player of the Week ... Served as team captain ... Earned the team's Coaches Award ... Also competed in track & field ... Set indoor 4x200m relay record and outdoor 4x100 relay record ... Helped squad to state titles in indoor track in 2012 and 2013 and an outdoor title in 2013 ... Millie Knudsen - M - Odense, Denmark/Denmark U-19
Coach Matz on Knudsen: "Mille is a very offensive-minded and creative player. She will play either attacking midfielder or forward. She loves to play with the ball at her feet and will break down defenses with her speed and technical ability."
Played for Denmark U-19 team in the European Championship in 2012 ... Was also a member of the Denmark U-17 squad ... Scored a goal in a 6-0 win over Moldova U-17 ... Helped high school squad to a 1-0 win in the final at the EkstraBladets Skoleturnering tournament ... Daughter of Ann Seehausen Christiansen and Lars Knudsen ... Has two siblings, Casper Knudsen and Ida Trier Christiansen.
Natalie Perussault - F - Leesburg, Va./Heritage
Coach Matz on Perussault: "Natalie is an exciting and versatile player who can play in the midfield or at forward. She has the speed and technical ability to break down defenders and score goals."

Danielle Roma - F - Foxboro, Mass./Foxboro
Coach Matz on Roma: "Danielle is has been well-coached and comes to us from a very good program. Her abilities will provide us experience in the midfield or defense."
