2014 UMass Women's Soccer Schedule Announced
May 16, 2014
AMHERST, Mass. - Eight home matches highlight UMass women's soccer's 18-game schedule for 2014, which was announced on Friday. The Minutewomen will face teams from the America East, BIG EAST, CAA, Ivy League and Northeast conferences in addition to their eight Atlantic 10 Conference matches.
"I like the balance of our 2014 schedule," said head coach Ed Matz. "We have four home and four road Atlantic 10 matches, with two of our road trips being single game weekends. The mix of competition in our non-conference slate from five different conferences will prepare us well for A-10 play."
The Minutewomen will open up the season on Friday, Aug. 22, against Towson on James Madison's campus in Harrisonburg, Va., at 4:30 p.m. UMass will then take on the host Dukes, who won the 2013 CAA regular season title, on Sunday, August 24, at 2 p.m.
The following week, UMass will make a Thursday trip to Smithfield, R.I., to face Bryant at 4 p.m. on Aug. 28, before opening its home slate against BIG EAST foe Providence on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m.
Two more matches on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 5 & 7, will complete the three-game homestand for the Minutewomen. Cornell will come to Amherst, on Sept. 5 for a 4 p.m. contest, the first meeting between the squads since 1995. UMass will conclude the weekend by taking on New Hampshire on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Minutewomen will next travel to Northeastern on Thursday, Sept. 11, to face the defending CAA Champions at 6 p.m. UMass defeated the Huskies in the teams' first-ever meeting last fall, 2-1 in OT on Rudd Field.
On Sunday, Sept. 14, the Minutewomen will begin a stretch of three straight against Ivy League opponents, hosting Yale at 1 p.m. UMass will then hit the road for the next two, playing at Brown on Thursday, Sept. 18 and at Harvard on Monday, Sept. 22. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
The first weekend of October will be the opening weekend of Atlantic 10 play for the Minutewomen as the squad will play host to George Mason on Friday, Oct. 3, and Saint Joseph's on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
UMass will have single game weeks the next two weekends with trips to George Washington on Saturday, Oct. 11 (1 p.m.), and Rhode Island on Saturday, Oct. 18 (7 p.m.).
The Minutewomen will wrap up their home schedule on Oct. 24 & 26, taking on St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m., before holding Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 26, prior to their 1 p.m. match against Duquesne on Rudd Field.
UMass concludes the regular season the following weekend with a Friday-Sunday trip to Richmond and Davidson. The Minutewomen will play at Richmond on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. and will make their first trip to Davidson, N.C., on Nov. 2 for a 3 p.m. contest.
