UMass Women's Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule
May 15, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - Nine home matches and a trip to College Station, Texas, to face a pair of 2012 NCAA Tournament teams highlight the 2013 UMass women's soccer schedule, which head coach Ed Matz announced on Wednesday. The Minutewomen will kick off the 2013 campaign at Siena on Friday, Aug. 23.
"I'm very happy with how our 2013 schedule came together," said Matz. "It's well balanced, especially in the Atlantic 10 portion in that we have four home and four away. The non-conference slate should challenge us and prepare us well for A-10 competition."
UMass will play its first two matches of the season on Rudd Field, Aug. 29 and Sept. 1, taking on regional foes St. John's and Army, respectively.
After opening at home, the Minutewomen will then be on the road for four straight, beginning with a Friday-Sunday trip to Providence and New Hampshire, Sept. 6 and 8.
UMass wraps up its stint away from Amherst the following weekend with a trip to Texas A&M. On Friday, Sept. 13, the Minutewomen will take on the Aggies, who advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament last fall. To conclude the trip to College Station, UMass will face another 2012 NCAA Tournament participant in Missouri on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Returning home for its final three non-conference games, the Minutewomen will host Brown on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 22, before taking on Bryant at Rudd Field on Thursday, Sept. 26, their final match leading up to Atlantic 10 play.
On Sunday, Sept. 29, UMass will travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for its A-10 opener against Saint Joseph's. The following Saturday, Oct. 5, the Minutewomen will welcome VCU to Amherst for their first-ever meeting against the Rams.
UMass will then take on Dayton at home on Friday, Oct. 11, before flying west for a match at Saint Louis on Sunday, Oct. 13.
In their second straight split home and away weekend, the Minutewomen will face Rhode Island on Rudd Field on Friday, Oct. 18, and travel to Fordham on Sunday, Oct. 20.
UMass will conclude the regular season with two single game weekends. The Minutewomen will be at Richmond on Sunday, Oct. 27, and will wrap up their home schedule with Senior Day against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Nov. 2.
