Women's Soccer Earns 2nd Consecutive CHAMPs Cup

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team has been named the winner of the 2012 CHAMPs Cup, awarded by the UMass Athletic Department's Academic Services Office. The squad received the honor for the second consecutive year after all 19 UMass varsity athletic program's were tracked throughout the 2012 calendar year in the categories of Academic Excellence, Athletic Achievement, and active participation in Community Service, Personal Development Events, the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and Big Game attendance. The Minutewomen were recognized at halftime of Wednesday's men's basketball game at the Mullins Center.
In 2012, the women's soccer program earned its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Tournament berth and finished the season with a 4-4-1 mark in conference play and a 9-10-1 record overall. Off the field, the student-athletes continued to be active members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, taking part in community service and projects, all while performing exceptionally in the classroom. The squad was one of 504 women's programs to earn a Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for posting a combined grade point average of 3.00 ot higher during the 2011-12 academic year.
