AMHERST, Mass. - Whitney Sikes tallied her 12th score of the year as Richmond defeated the Massachusetts women's soccer team 1-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament. In the second game of the day, Saint Joseph's defeated La Salle by a 1-0 score as well. Richmond will face Rhode Island in the semi-final round of action on Thursday, while Saint Joseph's will face Dayton.

In the opening game, Sikes sent a low, line drive shot towards the right corner to beat UMass keeper sophomore Kristin Walker (Lincoln Park, N.J.) in the fifth minute of play for the only score of the game.

Both team's battled for possession throughout the remainder of the match, but neither could capitalize on any offensive plays. UMass outshot Richmond 15-to-11 for the game, including a 9-to-5 advantage in the first half.

Kelly Kolker posted five saves in 90 minutes of work for Richmond, while Walker had two saves.

Richmond improves to 10-7-1 overall (7-4-0 A-10), while UMass finishes its season at 7-11-0 (5-6-0 A-10).

In game two of the day, Jess Daugherty launched a 30-yard arcing shot into the left corner of the net at the 66:21 mark to give Saint Joseph's a 1-0 win over La Salle.

La Salle outshot SJU 14-to-7 for the match, but could not find the net. Nicole Dienna was solid in the net for the Hawks making five saves, while Kerry Schamberger made two saves for La Salle.

As in the earlier game, both teams played a hard-fought even match as they traded possessions. La Salle had several scoring opportunities throughout the game, but the Saint Joseph's defense stood strong.

Saint Joseph's improves to 9-10-1 overall (6-4-1 A-10), while La Salle finishes its season at 10-8-2 overall (6-5-0 A-10).

Thursday's semi-final action will begin with Dayton versus Saint Joseph's in the 11:00 a.m. game, while Rhode Island will take on Richmond in the 1:00 p.m. game.
