Nov. 2, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. A pair of second half goals helped the Minutewomen improve to 7-8-3 overall, 3-3-2 in Atlantic 10 matches, while the Bonnies fall to 7-9-1 on the year and 4-4-0 in conference play.
Outshooting St. Bonaventure, 12-4 in the first half, UMass came inches from taking the lead in the 35th minute, but senior Grace Coombs' header off a corner kick rung off the crossbar.
Undeterred, the Minutewomen continued to dominate possession in the second half and put home their first of the contest in the 70th minute. Sophomore Jackie Bruno dribbled toward the middle of the field and ripped a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the far corner of the goal for her second of the season.
Less than three minutes later, UMass doubled its advantage. Sophomore Jen Coppola fed freshman Megan Burke, who was making a run on the opposite side of the field and Burke finished the play with a low shot inside the box that found its way under goalkeeper Megan Junker 72:35 into the match.
The Minutewomen ended the day with a dominating 27-10 shot advantage and led in corner kicks, 9-2. Fouls were 8-6, against UMass.
Redshirt freshman Danielle Kriscenski recorded seven saves in her fourth shutout of the season, while Junker turned aside seven, as well, for the Bonnies.
With the Atlantic 10 regular season concluding tomorrow, UMass will await the final standings to learn whether or not the squad will earn a berth into the A-10 tournament.
