Women's Soccer Falls To Fordham, 3-1

The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team (3-9-1, 2-5-0 Atlantic 10) fell to an undefeated Fordham team, 3-1, on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Minutewomen broke a two game scoreless streak, but it was not enough to move past the Rams.
Fordham got on the board in the 34th minute of play, as Corey Dunfey scored from two yards out. Holly Laubinger crossed the ball into the box, where Dunfey was able to put it past UMass sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Rutland (Fayetteville, Ga.). The junior defender made her presence felt again in the second half, scoring her second goal of the game. Natasha Kayulu shot one off the crossbar, where Dunfey was able to put the rebound in the back of the net. Fordham then made the score 3-0, as Laubinger scored a goal of her own, unassisted, shooting it into the top left corner from 25 yards out.
Junior forward Erica Wideberg (Randolph, N.J.) got the Minutewomen on the board in the 83rd minute, as she scored off of a cross by Lindsey Bellini (Webster, N.Y.). Massachusetts had a few other scoring opportunities,but could not solve Fordham goalkeeper Shannon Misiaszek, as she saved two of UMass' three shots on goal. Rutland made 10 stops in the game.
The Rams outshot UMass 23-6 overall, while also holding the edge in corner kicks, 9-0, and fouls, 13-9. Fordham's record improves to 9-3-2, 5-0-2 in the Atlantic 10.
UMass will be in action next on Friday, Oct. 24, as they return home to face Duquesne. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
