Moore's Hat Trick Stops Rams
Oct. 18, 2013
AMHERST, Mass. -- Brittany Moore made her final regular-season game against Rhode Island a memorable one. The senior forward provided three second-half goals as Massachusetts defeated URI 3-1 at Rudd Field Friday.
UMass improves to 6-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Atlantic 10 play for seven league points. URI moves to 5-10 and 0-5.
With a scoreless first half in the books, Moore made a couple of good runs early in the first few minutes but was unable to get a shot off. Then Jen Coppola found Moore down the right side inside the box in the 61st minute. Moore shot it past Ram goalkeeper Katie Nickles for the first goal of the game.
URI fought back and tied things up at 1-1 just over five minutes later. The Rams converted on the game's only corner kick when Samantha Leyh headed in a Jennifer Barrientos ball at the 65:52 mark.
Moore put the Minutewomen ahead for good when she beat Nickles on a 1v1 situation at the 78:42 point of the contest. She completed the hat trick with 2:58 remaining in the game when she and Megan Burke executed a give-and-go to perfection.
Moore now has six goals and seven assists in her career, with three of the scores and two helpers against the Rams - eight of her 19 total points.
Danielle Kriscenski made three saves in the game.
UMass outshot URI 14-8 for the game, and controlled the second half with a 9-2 margin.
UMass travels to Fordham on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start at Jack Coffey Field.
