Women's Soccer Falls To Richmond In Double Overtime, 2-1

The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team (2-6-1, 1-2-0 Atlantic 10) dropped a 2-1 double overtime match at Richmond, Saturday night. The loss marks the sixth straight for the Minutewomen, after opening the season 2-0-1.
Massachusetts opened up the scoring in the 29th minute when sophomore forward Adair Blyler (Lexington, Mass.) notched her fifth goal of the season, on a header. Senior defender Michelle Luttati (Westford, Mass.) got the assist.
The lead would not last until halftime however, as Richmond's Meghan Ogilvie scored on a header of her own, to knot the game at one each, at the 41:25 mark.
The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in regulation, and took two sudden-death overtime periods to decide a winner. The game finally came to an end when Brooke Binswanger notched a goal to earn the victory for the Spiders.
Senior goalkeeper Kelly Nigh (Seattle, Mass.) made ten saves in the match, while her counterpart, Megan Cox, made three for Richmond. Richmond held the edge in corner kicks, 7-1, as well as fouls, 15-11.
The loss brings UMass to 2-6-1 on the year, 1-2-0 in the Atlantic10, while Richmond improves to 3-5-2, 1-0-1 in the Atlantic 10.
UMass will be in action next on Friday, Oct. 10, when they return home to Rudd Field, for a matchup with Xavier at 3:00 p.m.
