PITTSBURGH, Pa. - A late tally by redshirt junior Sydney Stoll helped the UMass women's soccer team extend its unbeaten streak to five straight games as the squad defeated Duquesne, 1-0, in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen are now 3-4-2 on the year and are off to their best A-10 start since 2005 at 2-0-0. Following the loss, the Dukes are now 3-6-0 (0-2-0 A-10).

Despite holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks in the opening half, Duquesne was limited to six shots, three on goal, thanks to a strong performance by the UMass back line, which cleared many balls out of harm's way.

The defensive stronghold continued in the second as the Minutewomen kept the Dukes off the scoreboard, withstanding 11 shots and four corner kick chances following the intermission.

Then with overtime looming, UMass freshman Jenna Goodwin made a run up the right side and fed a streaking Stoll in the middle of the field. Stoll fired a low, long-range shot past Brittany Findley at 86:43 for her second of the season and third straight game with at least one point. The assist marked Goodwin's first of her collegiate career.

In her first collegiate start, freshman Emily Cota stopped eight shots and logged the shutout to improve her season numbers to a sparkling 0.59 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Duquesne finished with a 17-6 edge in shots and 9-1 in corner kicks. Fouls were even at five apiece.

UMass will continue its stretch of road matches next Friday, Oct. 2, when the squad will play at Saint Louis at 8 p.m.
