Match At UNH Ends In 0-0 Draw For Women's Soccer
Sept. 13, 2009
DURHAM, N.H. - The UMass women's soccer team had its second straight double overtime game on Sunday afternoon, playing to a scoreless draw against New Hampshire on the road at Cowell Stadium. Following the match, the Minutewomen are now 0-4-1 on the season, while the Wildcats sit at 1-4-1. UMass, which placed 10 shots on target in the contest, had a host of quality chances throughout the match. The first came from redshirt junior Sydney Stoll who found herself in a one-on-one with New Hampshire goalkeeper Ally Yost around the 15-minute mark, but sent the ball high over the crossbar. Stoll's opportunity came moments after Shaunna Kaplan hit the post for the Wildcats. In the final minute of the match, junior Therese Smith nearly won the match for the Minutewomen with her strike, but was stopped by Yost to preserve the tie. UMass had a balanced attack with eight players combining for a season-high 23 shots, including sophomore Rachel Miranda who led the Minutewomen with three. All three of Miranda's attempts were on frame, including two rocketed shots that Yost managed to turn aside. New Hampshire finished with 26 shots but were unable to score on the UMass goalkeeper tandem of senior Lauren Luckey and freshman Emily Cota. Luckey had four saves in the first half, while Cota played the remaining 65 minutes and stopped three shots. Yost finished with 10 saves. Corner kicks were 4-3 in favor of the Minutewomen while fouls were 10-4 against UNH. UMass will next travel to Hartford for a non-conference match on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m.
