PALMER, Mass. - Junior Erin Lilly (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored three goals and dished an assist as the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team opened its exhibition slate with a 6-3 win over Northeastern this evening at Legion Field.
Sophomore Carly Turman (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) received a pass from Lilly in the box and put the Minutewomen on the board first at the 19:16 mark of the first half. Less than seven minutes later, Turman returned the favor and set up Lilly for her first score of the night to give Massachusetts a 2-0 advantage. Liz Dyjak completed the scoring in the first half at the 35:06 mark to bring the Huskies back within a goal.
Tara McLarney scored an unassisted goal 6:37 into the second half to tie the game, but Lilly gave the Minutewomen the lead for good less than two minutes later with an unassisted goal of her own. This was the first of four consecutive Minutewomen tallies in the second half that put the game away. In addition to Lilly's third score of the match, sophomore Erica Wideberg (Randolph, N.J.) and junior Kelly Nigh (Seattle, Wash.) scored. Dyjak completed the scoring with her second of the game at the 89:01 mark.
