Former St. John's goalkeeper, Rebecca Capinera enters her fourth season as an assistant coach for UMass women's soccer. Capinera came to UMass from Marist and previously coached in the Atlantic 10 as a member of the St. Bonaventure staff.

In her first year with the Minutewomen, Capinera helped guide netminder Emily Cota to All-Region, All-New England and All-Atlantic 10 status in 2011 after posting a 0.82 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage along with 10 shutouts, which ranks sixth all-time in UMass history.

Capinera was the head of goalkeeper development for the Red Foxes and was responsible for the team's video breakdown and exchange. She also assisted with recruiting, practice plans, travel, summer camps and fundraising.

Previously Capinera spent two seasons as the first assistant coach at St. Bonaventure and worked with the Bonnies' goalkeepers, helping the squad to consecutive A-10 Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010, and two 10-plus win seasons.

Capinera served in various capacities of youth soccer in the Long Island area while completing her undergraduate degree at St. John's. In 2008, she was an assistant coach for the Auburndale Soccer Club while serving as a trainer at the Long Island Junior Soccer League Incorporation. In 2006, she was the goalkeeper coach for the New York Olympic Development Program (ODP). In the summer of 2010, Capinera worked her way up the ranks to become a Regional Staff Coach with the Regional Olympic Development Program for the U13 age group.

In 2009, Capinera graduated from St. John's with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. She was a three-year letterwinner in goal for the Red Storm and collected three BIG EAST Academic Scholar-Athlete honors, while finishing with over 100 career saves.

A native of Watertown, Conn., Capinera is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and has earned her United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National `C' Coaching License.
