Women's Skiing Places Seventh In Slalom

AMHERST, Mass. - The women's ski team placed seventh in the slalom and third in the Giant Slalom for an overall finish of fifth place out of 15 teams at the USCSA Eastern Regionals held Sunday and Monday at Waterville Valley, N.H.
Freshman Jen Barranger (Lanesboro, Mass.) posted the best UMass finish in the slalom with a two-run time of 1:39.67 placing her 20th overall. Freshman Ashley Maxfield (Craftsbury Common, Vt.) placed 25th overall with a two-run time of 1:41.77.
In the GS, Maxfield placed third overall with a two-run time of 2:00.76, while sophomore Caitlin Doughty (North Quincy, Mass.) placed eighth with a two-run time of 2:03.71. Sophomore Shaleighne Collins (North Reading, Mass.) placed 15th overall with a two-run time of 2:05.14, while Barranger placed 17th overall with a two-run time of 2:05.41 to round out the UMass top times.
Individually, Maxfield is ranked No. 9 in the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference with 66 points, while Caitlin Doughty is ranked No. 17 with 32 points.
The women's ski team return to action this weekend, Mar. 27-28 with the NCAA Eastern Regionals at Middlebury, Vt.
