Women's Skiing cleaned up over the weekend with a pair of wins.

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Ashley Maxfield (Craftsbury Common, Vt.) won both the Slalom and Giant Slalom races to help the University of Massachusetts women's ski team place first out of 10 teams in both the MIT Slalom Carnival on Saturday afternoon at Loon Mountain and the Brown University Giant Slalom Carnival on Sunday afternoon at Tenney Mountain.

Maxfield placed first out of 47 competitors in the Slalom with a two-run time of 1:49.62. In the Giant Slalom she beat out 50 competitors for first-place with a two-run time of 1:41.22. The wins mark the third consecutive week Maxfield has finished first in the Slalom while the GS victory was her first of the season after finishing second the last two weeks.

Sophomore Shaleighne Collins (North Reading, Mass.) also turned in a top-10 performance in the Slalom with a two-run time of 1:57.67 placing her eighth. In the Giant Slalom, sophomore captain Caitlin Doughty (North Quincy) turned in a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:43.49, while freshman Jennifer Barranger (Lanesboro, Mass.) had a solid showing with a time of 1:47.50 ranking her 11th.

Both teams return to action next weekend, February 7th, with the Boston College Winter Carnival at Ascutney Mountain (Vt.), with the slalom on Saturday and the GS on Sunday.

    The UMass Women's Ski Team got underway at the USCSA Nationals on Wednesday, skiing to a sixth place finish in the Giant Slalom in Winter Park, Colo. Emily Shilletto (Toronto, Ont.) led the way for the Minutewomen, finishing 13th. The Women's Team will be back in action on Friday when they will compete in the Slalom.

    The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Men's team, the defending USCSA National Champions, will not be returning to the Nationals after their sixth place finish over the weekend. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom.

    The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.
