Men's And Women's Ski Teams Record Fourth Place Finishes At UConn Carnival
Jan. 15, 2007
North Conway, N.H. - The men's and women's ski teams both recorded fourth place finishes at the UConn Carnival in North Conway, New Hampshire. The events were pushed up a day due to the poor weather conditions. On January 11, the men's team finished in fourth place in the Giant Slalom while the women finished in third. In the Slalom, the Minutemen finished in third while the Minutewomen finished in sixth.
A year after competing in the U.S. Nationals, junior Eliza Hawkins continued her unparalleled success. She looks to be a leader on a team that consists of four freshmen and two sophomores. She won the Giant Slalom with a combined time of 2:20.13. Freshman Emily Shilletto started her collegiate career with a bang, finishing second overall (2:20.28). Katie Weissman finished in 31st (2:34.12), Lauren Levey in 36th (2:40.72), and Emily Zimmerman in 42nd (2:53.89).
Hawkins paced the Minutewomen on Day 2 as well. She recorded a seventh place finish (1:39.00) in the Slalom. Weissman followed in 28th (1:45.34), Levey in 39th (1:52.69), Amanda Lea in 40th (1:54.22), and Zimmerman in 43rd (1:57.68).
With a young team, the Minutewomen put forth an impressive showing. They look to improve when they return to the slopes on Saturday. They travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. to ski in the Plymouth State Carnival.
