Day One Results | Day Two Results

Sunapee, N.H. - The UMass Ski Team began their 2009 season this weekend when they traveled to Mt. Sunapee to compete in the Colby-Sawyer College Carnival. Last season, both the Men and Women placed third overall in the Carnival. The Men's team skied to a second place finish on Friday before finishing third in the Giant Slalom on Saturday behind a strong effort from Andrew Hawes. The Women placed third on Friday and skied to a fifth place finish Saturday, led by Emily Shilletto and Ashley Hawes. UMass Skiing will be back in action next weekend when they will compete in the UConn Carnival at Cranmore.

Colby-Sawyer swept the weekend, finishing first in both the men (519.95) and women (326.73). The UMass Men finished with 529.24 while the Women had 334.47.

In Saturday's Giant Slalom, Shilletto and Ashley Hawes finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Shilletto finished with a total time of 1:51.00 while Hawes had a time of 1:51.02. Amy Gifford also had a strong weekend for the Minutewomen, finishing 23rd on Day Two with a time of 1:52.45 while Heidi Skinner finished with a time of 1:52.77, good enough for 25th overall. Abby Nolan finished Saturday with a time of 1:53.38 in 28th place. Alison Hubbard placed 39th, skiing to a time of 1:56.47.

The Minutemen had a big day on Saturday, led by Andrew Hawes, who skied to a second place finish overall with a time of 1:42.69. Adam Pogorzelski completed Day Two with a time of 1:44.31, in seventh place. Freshman Tom Sampson finished 14th overall with a time of 1:45.97 in his first collegiate meet. Paul Lewenberg finished 30th with a time of 1:51.33. Stefan Ogle had a time of 1:55.03, finishing 38th and Matthew Small finished 41st with a total time of 1:59.66.

Women's Skiing Finishes Sixth In Giant Slalom At USCSA Nationals
  • Giant Slalom Results
    The UMass Women's Ski Team got underway at the USCSA Nationals on Wednesday, skiing to a sixth place finish in the Giant Slalom in Winter Park, Colo. Emily Shilletto (Toronto, Ont.) led the way for the Minutewomen, finishing 13th. The Women's Team will be back in action on Friday when they will compete in the Slalom.

    Q&A With Head Ski Coach Skip Fox Recapping The ECSC Regionals
    The UMass Women's Ski Team captured a trip to the USCSA Nationals next weekend after their fifth place finish in last weekend's ECSC Regionals. The Minutewomen placed three skiers in the top-15 during both days of the Regionals. The Men's team, the defending USCSA National Champions, will not be returning to the Nationals after their sixth place finish over the weekend. The Minutemen had a tough day in Saturday's Slalom, finishing in ninth place before recovering with a second place finish in the Giant Slalom.

    Women's Skiing Places Fifth, Men Sixth, At ECSC Regionals
  • Slalom Results | Giant Slalom Results
    The UMass Ski team competed in the ECSC Regionals this past weekend in Waterville Valley, N.H. The women's team finished fifth overall, securing a spot in the USCSA Nationals in Winter Park, Colo. from March 3-7. The Men's team finished sixth overall after a disappointing ninth place finish in the Slalom before a second place finish in Sunday's Giant Slalom. UMass Skiing will be back in action this weekend when they will participate in the EISA Regionals at Sugarloff.
