Eight Minutewomen Honored By Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Eight UMass women's rowers were named 2009 College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar Athletes and senior Airlina Burrill was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team as announced on May 26. Erin Kelly of Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure's Christopher Post have been named the recipients of the Atlantic 10 Sporting Award, in voting conducted among the senior woman administrators at each of the Conference's 14 institutions. A two-time first-team All-Conference selection, Kelly rowed the third seat of Massachusetts' second-place Varsity 8 on Apr. 18 as the Minutewomen captured their 13th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. A member of the 2009 Academic All-Conference team, the Stoughton, Mass., native maintains a 3.78 grade point average while majoring in nursing. (more)
The UMass Senior Awards Dinner was held on Monday night. Softball pitcher Brandice Balschmiter and lacrosse goalie Doc Schneider were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively. Lacrosse attacker Tim Balise was named the Male Scholar-Athlete for the year and rower Erin Kelly took home the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Additionally, all senior athletes were recognized by their coaches. (more)
The UMass Men's and Women's Rowing teams will hold their annual banquet this Saturday, May 16th at 6pm in the UMass Student Union Ballroom. The women's team wrapped up a strong spring season this past weekend in Philadelphia at the Dad Vail Regatta and will honor its members for their accomplishments at the reception. Guests will also have the opportunity to listen to guest speaker, Christine Collins, the Bronze Medalist in the Lightweight Double at the 2000 Olympics.

The UMass women's rowing team competed on the Schuylkill River at the 71st Dad Vail Regatta this weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. The Minutewomen's JV Eight boat placed third overall while the Varsity Eight took second in the Second Final. The women's Varsity Lightweight 4 took silver in the Grand Final.
Dad Vail Schedule and Results
The UMass women's rowing team will head to Philadelphia, Pa. to compete in one of the oldest and most prestigious regattas in the country, the Dad Vail. Named after crew Coach Harry Emerson "Dad" Vail from the University of Wisconsin, the regatta will host more than 100 schools from across the country, including Buffalo and A-10 rival Saint Joseph's, as well as schools from California to Canada. It will be held on the Schuylkill River Friday and Saturday.
