Simon Named CRCA New England Staff Of The Year

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts rowing associate head coach Laura Simon was recognized by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) with the New England Staff of the Year Award on Monday, June 2, after Simon was nominated by UMass program leader Jim Dietz. The honor is given to an individual coach or entire staff that has shown outstanding commitment to their program, made a significant impact on the success of their program and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and integrity.
Simon assists Dietz in all aspects of the program, including recruitment of prospective student-athletes, alumni relations and the coaching of all current Minutewomen. Simon worked closely with the Varsity 4+ boat during the spring 2014 season and helped guide the group to a victories in the the Knect Cup Grand Final and Atlantic 10 Championship as well as first place finishes over Bates, Boston College, Connecticut, MIT, New Hampshire, Radcliffe, Rhode Island, Wellesley, Williams and William-Smith.
A 1998 University of Massachusetts graduate, Simon was also instrumental in bringing in the successful freshman class, which provided competitors for the Varsity 8+ boat that entered the NCAA Championships undefeated as well as rowers for the Varsity 4+ and Pair.
