Donadio And Kern To Bike 5,000 Miles In `Trek For Tuition'
June 3, 2010
AMHERST, Mass. - UMass rowers Isabella Donadio and Kathryn Kern are set to make a self-guided tour across the United States in order to raise money for the UMass scholarship fund. The two are hoping to raise enough money to pay for a semester's worth of instate tuition. Donadio and Kern will begin their journey on June 25.
"After having had great opportunities available to us at UMass, both academic and extracurricular, we are looking to give another deserving student the chance to experience life in college," they said.
The tandem will start off on Cape Cod before biking to Virginia. They will then journey across the TransAmerican trail to Pueblo, Colorado, where the duo will later connect with the Western Express Route and conclude their mission in San Francisco.
Both student-athletes are members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. Kern (Lexington, Mass.) raced in the Varsity Four for a majority of the 2010 season, where she helped the boat to a first place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Donadio (Malnate, Italia) was named to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll following the Fall 2009 semester, which requires a student-athlete to hold a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
