May 29, 2014
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Massachusetts rowing seniors Nicole Juul-Hindsgaul and Lauren St. Pierre were selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon. It is the second such award for St. Pierre, who was also honored in 2013, while it marks the first time Juul-Hindsgaul has appeared on the listing.
Juul-Hindsgaul has previously been lauded on the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll on five occasions. In the boat this season, she has been a versatile member of the squad with appearances with the Varsity Pair, Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 8+ boats. In her last outing, she helped the Second Varsity 8+ secure fourth place at the Dad Vail Regatta as the Minutewomen took the overall women's title at the 2014 edition of the illustrious event.
St. Pierre sits in the No. 2 seat of the currently undefeated Varsity 8+ boat, which helped earn UMass its automatic berth into the NCAA Championships with a first place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championships. Following the A-10 title, St. Pierre and the Varsity 8+ out-paced the field at the Dad Vail Regatta with a time of 6:30.855 in the Grand Finale. In addition to a pair of nods on the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, St. Pierre has been picked to the A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll on four occasions.
Juul-Hindgaul and St. Pierre are the 40th and 41st Minutewomen selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team since the 1996 season. They will wrap up their 2014 seasons with the UMass rowing team at the NCAA Championships, beginning Friday, May 30.
