Rowing Wins Pair Of Events At Collegiate Small Boat Challenge

The University of Massachusetts rowing team took first place in the 1x A and 2x E Final events at the Collegiate Small Boat Challenge in Mercer, N.J. on Sunday. The Minutewomen sent 12 boats to participate in the event.
The duo of Taryn Wilson and Emily Mann earned gold in the Collegiate 2x B Final on Sunday morning with a time of 7:58.70, ahead of the second place finishers from Syracuse, who crossed in 7:59.76. The team of Marika Kopp and Lauren St. Pierre took home fifth five seconds later.
Krysten Menks and Nicole Destefano led the charge in the 2x E Final by finishing in 8:17.28, which was three seconds ahead of second place Colgate. Gabrielle Hayward and Sarah Wiczek added a fourth place finish for the Minutewomen at 8:22.43.
UMass also claimed silver in the morning 1x D Final. Becca Adams completed the course two seconds ahead of third place Boston University with a time of 9:05.51.
The Minutewomen earned bronze in the Collegiate 2-D Final with the pair of Candace Miller and Hannah Monahan finishing in 8:28.72. Their finish came only two seconds ahead of fourth place Pennsylvania.
This was the last event of the fall season for the UMass rowing program. Massachusetts will return to action to begin their spring season in head-to-head competition against Coast Guard in Hadley, Mass. on March 22, 2014.
